YOGI CUBS

KIDS YOGA PROGRAM

Neurodivergence

1. Yogi Cubs Builds Self-Regulation Through Movement

Science: Neurodivergent children (like those with autism, ADHD, anxiety, or sensory processing differences) often have challenges with self-regulation—managing their emotions, energy levels, and focus.

How Yogi Cubs Helps:

Yogi Cubs uses yoga-based movement to help kids become more aware of their bodies and emotions. Movement activates the vestibular system (balance and spatial orientation) and the proprioceptive system (body awareness), which are often dysregulated in neurodivergent kids. When these systems are activated in a calm, playful way, it helps children feel more grounded and in control.

2. We Use Breathwork to Calm the Nervous System

Science: Deep breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system (the “rest and digest” state), reducing stress and anxiety. Neurodivergent kids often live in a constant state of hyperarousal (fight or flight).

How Yogi Cubs Helps:

Yogi Cubs teaches breathing techniques that kids can use when they feel overwhelmed. It’s like giving them their own built-in calming toolkit. These practices lower heart rate, reduce cortisol (the stress hormone), and help the brain switch from chaos to calm.

3. Mindfulness Builds Focus and Emotional Awareness

Science: Mindfulness has been shown to increase activity in the prefrontal cortex—the part of the brain responsible for decision-making, attention, and emotional regulation.

How Yogi Cubs Helps:

We guide kids through simple mindfulness activities like listening to a bell, feeling their breath, or noticing how their body feels. Over time, these practices improve attention span, reduce impulsivity, and help kids express emotions in healthier ways.

4. A Safe, Predictable Space Supports Sensory Needs

Science: Neurodivergent children often have sensory sensitivities—some are sensory-seeking (they crave input), and others are sensory-avoidant (they get overwhelmed by certain sounds, lights, or textures).

How Yogi Cubs Helps:

We design classes with sensory-friendly elements like soft lighting, calming music, and structured routines. We also provide adaptable movement and sensory tools like weighted items or textured mats to meet each child’s individual sensory profile.

5. Play-Based Learning Encourages Social & Emotional Growth

Science: Social-emotional learning (SEL) improves empathy, cooperation, and self-confidence. Neurodivergent kids might struggle with social cues, peer interaction, or self-esteem.

How Yogi Cubs Helps:

Our sessions blend yoga with imaginative play, storytelling, and group games to build connection and community. Kids learn to take turns, express feelings, and support one another in a non-judgmental space.

Why Yogi Cubs is Different:

  • We understand neurodivergence and celebrate each child’s unique needs.
  • We don’t expect kids to “sit still”—we meet them where they are.
  • Our team is trauma-informed, playful, and supportive.
